The school I work at was closed today and is closed again tomorrow due to all this pretty white stuff! Mother nature must've known I needed a break. On top of that, my bio test was postponed to next week which means I may actually pass it since I'll have an extra week to force comprehension upon myself. YAY for SNOW DAYS!!!

Meaghan Has Tonsilitis

As it happens, I was right. You should NOT send your sick child to infect his teachers. It seems that is waht has happened, and now I have what looks like two additional uvulas (uvulae?) at the sides of my throat and they hurt.

I think its funny that when you have no room at the back of your throat, the doctor of course sees fit to give you the biggest freakin pill they have at the pharmacy to help clear it up. I think the only reason it works is because it pushes them down so they stop swelling as it squeezes through to go down your throat.

Also, until further notice, I am sleeping as often as possible. The being ill makes me sleepy, so until my immune system ninja

kicks this things butt, don't wake me!

Upon further inspection the word uvula may be pluralized by either form, uvulas or uvulae. Seeing, however, as it is derived from the Latin word for grape it seems only fair that we use the form uvulae. Just a brain tidbit for you.

Meaghan Feels Icky

I dont feel right.
My head  fuzzy & I'm sleepy
I have an icky kind of cough that doesn't
do anything but make my throat and my head hurt
Maybe sick kids shouldn't come to school
Then teachers wouldn't get sick too
Lazy parents send them in
so they don't have to
watch them.

PRAIRIE STATE COLLEGE IS RUINING MY LIFE (and DU is helping them)

The following is an account of the ways in which Prairie State College is ruining my life

At the end of last semester I sat down with an advisor to do an audit of my classes. When she came to the English portion, I was told that I for my major I needed to take Composition II. I told her that while I was at DU I had tested out of both Comp I and II, but when we looked it was not on my transcripts. At that point, DU was already done with their semester and no one was in the Registrar's office for me to call. I called on Monday and left a message for Pat in Advising, and as it is now Thursday, feel as if I have been brushed off. Today when I attempted to call her again, I once again got her voicemail, so I got smarter. I hung up and called Sr. Melissa. She sent me over to the Registrar, who in turn sent me back to Pat. So I've just left another message.
In the wee hours of January, I registered online for this semester's classes. The day before the deadline to set up a payment plan, I put all my information through, and didn't think anything of it for the next week or so. Then I recieved a letter stating that my courses had been dropped becuase I didn't have a payment plan in place. I re-registered and attempted to set up the payments again. The payment service would not take my credit card. I don't have the money in my checking to set up a payment plan that way, and I can't get a student loan without proof that I'm registered at the school, which I wasn't because they DROPPED MY CLASSES! While I was trying to figure out all this nonsense, a guy from the mail-order prescription place calls to tell me the insurance (through my parents) will not pay for my asthma medicine because they say I exceed the age limit. If you're over 18  you have to show proof of being a full time student, like your REGISTRATION in order to be insured.
My dad told me to call the business office and see if they would take a check from him to get me started, and of course they said no, show us the money. The woman was quite argumentative with me when I expressed distaste for the system they use to make payment. Through their system, you cannot pay at the school, you have to use their online service. I later found out you can set up a payment plan, but it has to be in cash. which is what I could have just had them tell me when I was in there the other day instead of saying "call the online provider and see if they can work it out, then we'll see what we can do if they can't help you."
I told the lady I was frustrated because if this thing had gone through the first time I tried to use it, then I would have had to pay 25%+$30 with three other payments, instead if I go in today I have to pay 50% +$30 then two other payments. She started to get snitty with me saying how I should have contacted them earlier if I was having problems with the system then. She got kinda quiet when I told her I emailed her office last week and recieved no response.
I am so tired of all this crap. There is no reason for a school to treat students who have consistently paid their tutition this way. It's not as if I'm trying to get soemthing free or cheat them out of money.  What doesnt help is that I think my body is fighthing my medication, which is throwing my hormones for a loop and making me irritable and frequently on the brink of tears. I need a hug.
